Left clicks and taps count. Right clicks do not. Changing the test length starts a new test.
About the click speed test
What is a CPS test?
A CPS test measures your clicks per second: how many times you can click a mouse button in one second, on average, over a set time. This click speed test counts every left click or tap in the box for 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds, then shows your CPS, your total clicks, and the most clicks you made in any single second.
Why use our click speed test
- ·Free. No signup, no paywall, no limit on tests.
- ·Accurate timing. The clock checks the real time on every screen refresh, and clicks after time runs out are not counted.
- ·No accidental restarts. Clicks are ignored for a moment after each test, so your last fast clicks do not start a new one.
- ·Tracks your progress. Your best CPS for each test length is saved in your browser.
How to test your click speed
- 1
Pick a test length
Choose 1, 5, 10, 30, or 60 seconds. 5 and 10 seconds are the most common lengths for comparing CPS scores.
- 2
Click the box to start
The timer starts with your first click, and that click counts. Click with the left mouse button, or tap on a touch screen.
- 3
Click as fast as you can
Keep clicking inside the box until the timer reaches zero. The counter shows your clicks so far and your live clicks per second.
- 4
Read your CPS
When time is up you see your clicks per second, total clicks, and fastest second. Wait a moment, then click the box again to try again.
How clicks per second (CPS) is calculated
CPS = total clicks ÷ test length in seconds
For example, 40 clicks in a 5 second test is 40 ÷ 5 = 8 CPS, and 75 clicks in a 10 second test is 7.5 CPS. The test always divides by the full test length, so a pause in the middle lowers your score.
The fastest second is the most clicks that landed inside any one second stretch of the test, not just the first, second, or third second on the clock. It shows your top speed, while CPS shows your average. In a 1 second test the two are the same.
Clicking techniques: jitter, butterfly, and drag clicking
How you click changes your CPS more than anything else. When you compare scores, compare the same technique and the same test length.
- ·Normal clicking. Clicking with one finger the usual way. It is the easiest on your hand and the fairest way to compare scores with friends.
- ·Jitter clicking. Tensing the muscles in your hand and forearm so your finger shakes quickly on the button. It is much faster than normal clicking but tires the arm quickly.
- ·Butterfly clicking. Tapping the same button with two fingers, usually the index and middle finger, one after the other. Each finger only has to click half as fast.
- ·Drag clicking. Sliding a finger along the mouse button so the friction makes it bounce. One drag can register many clicks. It only works on some mice and some button surfaces.
Fast clicking puts strain on your fingers, wrist, and forearm. Take breaks between tests, and stop if it hurts. Hard drag and butterfly clicking can also wear out a mouse switch faster.
Mouse double clicking on its own? Check it with the click test
A worn mouse switch can send one press as two clicks. You notice it when files open on a single click, or a drag lets go halfway. To check, pick the 60 second test and click the box slowly, about once a second. Each click should add exactly 1 to the counter. If it sometimes jumps by 2, the switch is double clicking. For a closer look, themouse double click test times every press on every button in milliseconds.
- ·Check the mouse software. Some gaming mice have a debounce time setting. A very low value can make one press count twice, so try raising it.
- ·Try another computer. If the counter jumps there too, the problem is the mouse, not your settings.
- ·Check the warranty. Double clicking is a hardware fault, so a mouse still under warranty can often be replaced. Otherwise, the switch can be replaced by someone comfortable with soldering.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I check my clicks per second?
- Choose a test length, then click the box above as fast as you can. The timer starts with your first click. When time runs out, the test shows your clicks per second (CPS), your total clicks, and your fastest single second.
- How is CPS calculated?
- CPS is your total clicks divided by the length of the test in seconds. For example, 40 clicks in a 5 second test is 40 ÷ 5 = 8 CPS. The fastest second is the most clicks you made in any one second stretch of the test.
- What is a good CPS?
- There is no official scale, and scores depend a lot on the test length, your mouse, and the clicking technique you use. Jitter, butterfly, and drag clicking all score far higher than normal clicking. The most useful comparison is with your own earlier scores at the same test length.
- Why is my CPS lower in longer tests?
- Your hand gets tired. Most people can keep up their top speed for a few seconds, then slow down. A 1 second test measures a short burst, while a 30 or 60 second test also measures how long you can keep going.
- Does CPS matter in Minecraft?
- It depends on the version. Since Minecraft Java Edition 1.9, attacks have a cooldown, so clicking faster than the cooldown does not add damage. Java Edition 1.8 and Bedrock Edition have no attack cooldown, so faster clicking means more hits. Some servers ban autoclickers and macros, so check the rules of the server you play on.
- Can I use this to check if my mouse double clicks?
- Yes. Click the box slowly, one click at a time, and watch the counter. Each click should add exactly 1. If it sometimes jumps by 2, the mouse is sending one press as two clicks.
- Do right clicks or key presses count?
- No. Only left clicks, taps on a touch screen, and pen taps count. Right clicks are ignored, and the right click menu is turned off inside the box so it does not get in the way. Keyboard presses do not count.
- Does the click speed test work on a phone or tablet?
- Yes. Tap the box to start and keep tapping. Every finger that touches the screen counts as a click, so tapping with two fingers counts both.
- Is my score saved anywhere?
- Only on your device. Your best CPS for each test length is saved in this browser so you can track your progress. Nothing is uploaded, and clearing your browser data removes it.
