Browsers cannot tell how big your screen is in inches. Enter the diagonal size from your device's specs, such as 27 for a 27 inch monitor, to work out its pixels per inch.

These numbers are for the screen this window is on, and update by themselves if you move it to another screen. Browser zoom changes them in some browsers, so press Ctrl+0 (Cmd+0 on a Mac) to reset zoom to 100% first.

What is screen resolution?

Screen resolution is the number of pixels a screen shows, written as width × height. A 1920 × 1080 screen has 1,920 pixels across and 1,080 down, about 2 million pixels in total. More pixels on the same size of screen means sharper text and images.

Most computers and phones also use display scaling, which draws everything bigger so it stays readable on a sharp screen. That is why a screen can have two resolutions: its real one, and the smaller scaled one that websites see. This checker shows both.

Why use our screen resolution checker

  • ·The real resolution. Websites normally see only the scaled size. This checker undoes the scaling to show your screen's true pixel count.
  • ·Everything in one place. Scaling, aspect ratio, window and viewport size, color depth, and HDR, with a diagram of your window on the screen.
  • ·Live updates. Resize the window or move it to another monitor and the numbers change with it.
  • ·Copy in one click. Paste all the details into a bug report or a support chat.
  • ·Free and private. No signup, and nothing leaves your browser.

How to check your screen resolution

  1. 1

    Open the page

The checker reads your screen as soon as the page loads. There is nothing to click or install.

  2. 2

    Read your screen resolution

The large number is your screen's real resolution in pixels, width first, such as 1920 × 1080. Below it you see its common name, like Full HD (1080p), and its aspect ratio.

  3. 3

    Check scaling and window size

The details show your scaled resolution, the scaling set in your display settings, your browser window and viewport size, and color details such as HDR.

  4. 4

Copy the details or work out PPI

Click Copy all details to paste everything into a support ticket or bug report. Enter your screen size in inches to see its pixels per inch.

Why websites show a lower screen resolution than your monitor

If another site says your screen is 1536 × 864 but you bought a 1920 × 1080 laptop, nothing is wrong. Your display scaling is set above 100%, so apps and websites work with a smaller, scaled size. The screen still uses all of its pixels, which makes text sharper. To get the scaled size, divide each side by the scaling.

Browser zoom can change these numbers too. In Chrome and Edge, zooming a page in or out changes the pixel ratio the page sees, so reset zoom with Ctrl+0 (Cmd+0 on a Mac) before you check.

Common screen resolutions and their names

Screens are often sold by a name instead of a pixel count. These are the sizes behind the names you see in stores and settings menus.

How to find your screen resolution in Windows, Mac, and on phones

Your device's settings are where you change the resolution and scaling this page shows.

  • ·Windows 11 and 10. Right-click the desktop and choose Display settings, or open Settings, then System, Display. Display resolution shows the real resolution, and Scale shows the scaling. The native resolution is marked Recommended.
  • ·Mac. System Settings, then Displays, lists scaled sizes such as Larger Text and More Space. For exact numbers, hold Option, open the Apple menu, and choose System Information. Under Graphics/Displays, Resolution is the real resolution and UI Looks like is the scaled one.
  • ·iPhone and iPad. No setting shows the resolution, so this page is the quickest way to see it. Display Zoom (in Settings, Display & Brightness) changes the scaled size websites see, but not the real resolution.
  • ·Android. Some Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel models have a Screen resolution option under Settings, Display. Most phones do not show it anywhere. Display size (or Display size and text) changes the scaled size websites see.

When to check your screen resolution

  • ·Picking a wallpaper. A wallpaper at your exact resolution fills the screen without stretching or blur.
  • ·Setting up a game. Games look sharpest at your screen's native resolution. Match the in-game setting to the number at the top of this page.
  • ·Building or testing a website. Web developers and designers check the viewport size and pixel ratio to test layouts and serve images at the right size.
  • ·Getting tech support. When a page looks broken, support teams often ask for your screen and window size. Copy all details gives them everything at once.
  • ·Buying a used monitor or laptop. Check that the screen has the resolution the listing claims.

Frequently asked questions

How do I check my screen resolution?
Open this page. The large number at the top is your screen resolution in pixels, width first, such as 1920 × 1080. You can also find it in your display settings: in Windows 11 go to Settings, System, Display, and look at Display resolution. On a Mac, open System Information and choose Graphics/Displays.
Why does it say 1536 × 864 when my screen is 1920 × 1080?
1536 × 864 is the scaled resolution of a 1920 × 1080 screen set to 125% scaling, which is the default on many Windows laptops. Windows draws text and apps 25% bigger so they are easier to read, and web pages see the smaller number. This checker multiplies it back by the scaling and shows the real 1920 × 1080 as the main result.
What is the difference between screen resolution and viewport size?
Screen resolution is the size of the whole display. The viewport is the part of the browser window that shows the web page, without tabs, toolbars, and the taskbar. A website's layout and CSS media queries respond to the viewport, so it changes as you resize the window while the screen resolution stays the same.
What is device pixel ratio?
Device pixel ratio is the number of real screen pixels used for each CSS pixel on a web page. A ratio of 1 means one to one. A ratio of 2, common on Mac and iPhone screens, means each CSS pixel is 2 × 2 real pixels, so text and images look sharper. On Windows it matches your scaling setting, so 150% scaling is a ratio of 1.5.
Is 1920 × 1080 the same as 1080p and Full HD?
Yes. 1920 × 1080, 1080p, and Full HD (FHD) all describe the same resolution: 1,920 pixels across and 1,080 pixels down, in a 16:9 shape.
Is 1440p the same as 2K?
In stores, monitors with 2560 × 1440 pixels are often sold as 2K, though the correct name is QHD or 1440p. The film industry's 2K standard is 2048 × 1080, which is closer to 1080p. 4K usually means 3840 × 2160 on TVs and monitors.
Why does my Mac show a resolution higher than the screen?
With a scaled setting like More Space, macOS draws the screen at a larger size and then shrinks it to fit the panel. For example, a 14 inch MacBook Pro set to look like 1800 × 1169 draws at 3600 × 2338, which is more pixels than its 3024 × 1964 panel. The checker shows the size macOS draws at. At the Default setting, that equals the panel's real resolution.
Can this tool tell my screen size in inches?
No. Browsers know how many pixels a screen has but not how big it is. Check the size in your device's specs or measure the screen diagonally, corner to corner. If you type that size into the pixel density box, the tool works out the pixels per inch (PPI).
What screen resolution should I use?
Use your screen's native resolution, which is the highest one in the list and the one Windows marks as Recommended. A lower resolution gets stretched to fit the panel and looks blurry. If text is too small at native resolution, raise the scaling instead of lowering the resolution.
I have two monitors. Which one does it check?
It checks the screen the browser window is on. Drag the window to the other screen and the numbers update within a second. In Chrome and Edge, the More than one screen line also shows whether your computer has a second display connected.
Does the screen resolution checker send any data?
No. Everything is read and shown in your browser. Nothing is uploaded or saved.
