What converting PNG to PDF does

PNG is the format for screenshots, diagrams, logos, and anything with sharp edges or text. It stores every pixel without loss, and it can have transparent areas.

Converting places each PNG on its own PDF page and keeps both of those qualities. The pixels go into the PDF unchanged, using the same lossless compression PNG uses, and the transparency travels with them.

The result is one document instead of a folder of images. It keeps its page order, opens on any device, and is accepted by the upload forms and email systems that turn images away.

Why use our PNG to PDF converter

  • ·No quality lost. PNGs are not turned into JPEG on the way in, so screenshot text stays sharp instead of picking up blurry halos.
  • ·Transparency kept. See-through areas stay see-through in the PDF itself.
  • ·Screenshots in the right order. Sort by name understands numbers, so Screenshot 9 comes before Screenshot 10.
  • ·Pages that fit the image. Same as image sizes every page to its PNG, so tall phone screenshots do not shrink to a strip.
  • ·Nothing is uploaded. Screenshots often show messages, accounts, and addresses. They stay on your device.

How to convert PNG to PDF

  1. 1

    Add your PNG files

Drag the PNGs onto the box or click to pick them. Select many at once, or add more later. You can mix in JPG and WebP images too.

  2. 2

    Set the page order

Each PNG becomes one page. Drag the images into order, use the arrows, or sort by name, which puts numbered screenshots back in sequence. Rotate any that need it.

  3. 3

    Choose the page size

Paper sizes like A4 and US Letter suit printing, and there are photo sizes and a custom size too. Same as image keeps every page the exact shape of its PNG, which is best for screenshots read on screen.

  4. 4

    Convert and download

Click Convert to PDF to download one PDF. Turn on the ZIP option first if you want a separate PDF for each PNG.

Choosing a page size for screenshots

Screenshots come in shapes paper does not. A phone screenshot is tall and narrow, a desktop one is wide, and a scrolling screenshot of a whole web page or chat can be many times taller than it is wide. The page size you pick decides how readable they end up.

Same as image makes every page exactly the shape of its PNG, with no white border unless you add a margin. Nothing is shrunk to fit, so text stays the size it was on screen. Use it whenever the PDF will be read on a screen, and always for scrolling screenshots.

A4, US Letter, and the other paper sizes fit each PNG onto a standard sheet of paper. Use them when the PDF will be printed. With Match each image, desktop screenshots go on landscape pages and phone screenshots on portrait pages, so each fills as much of the sheet as it can. A scrolling screenshot will still be shrunk to the height of one sheet, so print those from a Same as image PDF with "fit to page" turned off in the print settings instead.

What happens to PNG transparency in a PDF

A PNG can have areas that are fully or partly see-through, like the space around a logo or the soft shadow under an icon. The converter keeps that information. In the PDF, the image carries its own transparency, the same way it did as a PNG.

A PDF page itself has no color. Readers like Adobe Acrobat, Preview, and web browsers draw it as white paper, so transparent areas look white when you open the file, and print as blank paper. Nothing behind them is hidden or lost.

The difference shows when the PDF goes somewhere else. Placed into a layout in a design app, or over a colored background in another document, the transparent areas let that background show through, exactly as the PNG would have. If you need a solid background instead, fill the transparent areas with a color in an image editor before converting.

How big a PNG to PDF file will be

Expect the PDF to be close to the total size of the PNGs you put in. That is fine for screenshots and diagrams, which are made of flat colors and compress well without loss.

Photos are the exception. A camera photo saved as PNG is often several times larger than the same photo saved as JPG, because PNG has to keep every tiny variation in color exactly. Ten of them can make a PDF too big to email.

If that happens, either convert the photos with our JPG to PDF converter instead, or shrink the finished file with our compress PDF tool, which recompresses large images and tells you the new size before you download.

When to convert PNG to PDF

  • ·Anyone sending screenshots as evidence or records. Order confirmations, chat logs, error messages, and bank app screens are usually saved as PNG. A single PDF keeps them in order and is what support teams, landlords, and courts tend to ask for.
  • ·Designers sharing mockups and exports. Design tools export artboards as PNG. Combining them into one PDF gives a client a single file to scroll through and comment on.
  • ·Teachers and students. Diagrams, charts, and worksheet pages exported as PNG can be put into one PDF for printing or handing in.
  • ·Anyone whose form only accepts PDF. Upload portals often refuse images. Converting a PNG of a document or certificate to PDF gets it accepted without changing how it looks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert PNG to PDF for free?
Add your PNG files, choose a page size, and click Convert to PDF. The PDF downloads straight away. There is no signup, no watermark, and no limit on how many files you convert.
Does converting PNG to PDF lose quality?
No. PNG images are stored in the PDF without loss, so every pixel stays exactly as it was. Text in screenshots and sharp lines in diagrams stay crisp at any zoom the original could handle.
Does PNG transparency survive in the PDF?
Yes. Transparent areas stay transparent inside the PDF. PDF readers show a white page behind them, so on screen and on paper they look white. If you place the PDF into a design app, the transparency is still there.
How do I combine several PNG files into one PDF?
Select all the PNGs when you add them, or add them in batches with Add more. Put them in order, then convert. Each PNG becomes one page of the same PDF, in the order shown.
How do I convert a long scrolling screenshot to PDF?
Choose Same as image as the page size. The page then has the same tall shape as the screenshot, so the text stays readable. On A4 or US Letter a very tall image is shrunk to fit the page height and becomes a thin strip.
Why is my PNG to PDF file so large?
Because PNG keeps every pixel without loss, which suits screenshots but makes photos very large. A photo saved as PNG can be several times the size of the same photo as JPG, and the PDF holds the PNG as it is. Run the PDF through our compress PDF tool, which recompresses large images, or use our JPG to PDF converter for photos.
Should I convert screenshots as PNG or JPG?
Keep screenshots as PNG. JPG compression smears the sharp edges of text and leaves blurry halos around it. PNG keeps them sharp. JPG is the better choice only for photos.
Can I convert PNG to PDF on a phone?
Yes. The page works in a mobile browser. Pick the PNGs or screenshots from your gallery, convert, and the PDF is saved to your downloads.
Are my PNG files uploaded anywhere?
No. The PDF is built inside your browser tab and saved straight to your device. Your images are never sent to a server.
