Blank characters

Look like an empty space but are not counted as whitespace, so apps that trim spaces usually keep them. Best for blank names and empty messages.

  • Hangul FillerU+3164

A Korean filler letter that usually shows as an empty gap. The most common pick for blank names and messages.

  • Braille Pattern BlankU+2800

A Braille cell with no dots raised. It looks like a space, but apps read it as a symbol, so it is often used for empty lines.

  • Halfwidth Hangul FillerU+FFA0

A narrower Hangul filler. Try it when the full-width one looks too wide or an app rejects it.

  • Hangul Choseong FillerU+115F

Another Hangul filler with its own code, worth trying when an app blocks the other blank characters.

Zero-width characters

Take up no room at all. Good for hidden break points and for splitting a word without changing how it looks.

  • Zero Width SpaceU+200B

Has no width. Lets a long word or URL wrap at that point, and splits a word without any visible change.

  • Zero Width Non-JoinerU+200C

Has no width. Keeps two letters from joining in scripts like Persian, where letters normally connect.

  • Zero Width JoinerU+200D

Has no width. Joins emoji into one, like a family emoji, so putting it between emoji can change what shows up.

  • Word JoinerU+2060

Has no width and stops a line from breaking at that point.

Unicode spaces

Real space characters in different widths. Many apps trim these from the start and end of a name or message.

  • No-Break SpaceU+00A0

A normal-width space that keeps the words on each side on the same line. The same as   in HTML.

  • En SpaceU+2002

Half as wide as the font size.

  • Em SpaceU+2003

As wide as the font size. Good for an indent that does not collapse.

  • Figure SpaceU+2007

As wide as a digit, for lining up numbers in a column.

  • Thin SpaceU+2009

A narrow space, often placed between a number and its unit.

  • Hair SpaceU+200A

The thinnest space, used for fine spacing in typography.

  • Narrow No-Break SpaceU+202F

A thin space that keeps text on one line. French uses it before ! and ?.

  • Ideographic SpaceU+3000

A full-width space the size of one Chinese or Japanese character.

About the invisible character generator

What is an invisible character?

An invisible character is a Unicode character that shows as empty space, or as nothing at all, when you paste it. It is still a real character, so it counts toward a name's length and can fill a field that would otherwise be empty.

They come in three kinds. Real spaces, like the no-break space and em space, come in different widths. Zero-width characters, like the zero width space, take up no room. And blank characters, like the Hangul Filler (U+3164) and Braille Pattern Blank (U+2800), are a letter and a symbol that fonts draw as an empty gap. The blank ones are the most useful for names and messages, because apps do not treat them as spaces.

Why use our invisible character generator

  • ·16 characters, labeled. Each one shows its name, its code, and what it is good for, so you know what you are pasting.
  • ·Mix and match. Click characters in any order and see each one as a labeled tile.
  • ·Copy it your way. As invisible text, HTML entities, Unicode escapes, or code points.
  • ·Built-in checker. Paste any text to find, mark, and remove the hidden characters in it.
  • ·Free and private. No signup, and nothing you paste leaves your browser.

How to copy and paste an invisible character

  1. 1

    Click characters to add them

Your text starts with one Hangul Filler, the character most people use for blank names and messages. Click any character under Click to add to put it at the end. Click the same one again for more, or click different ones to build a mix in the order you want.

  2. 2

    Check and fix your text

Each character in your text shows as a labeled tile, like Hangul or Braille, since the text itself cannot be seen. Click a tile to take it out, use Undo to remove the last one, or Clear to start over. You can add up to 200 characters.

  3. 3

    Pick how to copy it

Under Copy your text, the green highlight between the brackets shows how much room your invisible text takes. Copy it as invisible text for a name or message, or as HTML entities, Unicode escapes, or code points for a web page or code.

  4. 4

    Copy and paste it

Click Copy next to Invisible text, then paste into the name field, message box, or document. To check what you copied, paste it into the checker at the bottom of the tool.

Why an app removes your blank name or message

If the invisible text vanishes or the app says the field is empty, one of these is usually the cause:

  • ·It was trimmed as whitespace. Most apps strip spaces from the start and end of a name or message. Every character in the Unicode spaces group counts as whitespace, so a name made only of them ends up empty. The blank characters (Hangul Filler, Braille Pattern Blank, and the other Hangul fillers) are not whitespace, so standard trimming keeps them.
  • ·It had no width. Some apps treat text made only of zero-width characters as empty. Use a blank character when the whole name or message should be invisible.
  • ·It was too short. A name field may need 2 or 3 characters. Add more characters and copy again.
  • ·The app blocks that character. Some apps keep a list of characters they do not allow in names. If one blank character is rejected, try the Halfwidth Hangul Filler, the Hangul Choseong Filler, or the Braille Pattern Blank.

Invisible character codes for HTML and code

An invisible character is easy to lose when you copy code around, since you cannot see it. Writing it as a code keeps it visible in your source. Use the HTML entity in a web page, and the escape in JavaScript, JSON, Java, C#, and Python strings. The tool can copy your whole text in either form.

Typing one on your keyboard

  • ·Windows. Hold Alt and type 0160 on the number pad to get a no-break space.
  • ·Mac. Press Option and Space together to type a no-break space.
  • ·Linux. In many apps, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type the code without the U+ (for example 3164), then press Space. This works for any character in the list.

Hidden characters in text you copied

Invisible characters also end up in text by accident. Text copied from web pages, PDFs, chat apps, and AI tools can carry zero-width spaces, no-break spaces, byte order marks, or direction marks. You cannot see them, but they can make a password fail, a search miss, two words that look the same compare as different, or code refuse to run.

Paste the text into the checker in the tool to see exactly what is there. It catches Unicode tag characters (U+E0000 to U+E007F), which match ordinary letters but never display, so they can hide whole words inside normal-looking text. The checker shows the words they spell. Click Copy without invisible characters to get the text back with all of them removed.

If the text came from ChatGPT, Claude, or Gemini, the AI Text Cleaner also turns curly quotes and long dashes into plain ones and strips markdown symbols.

Who uses invisible characters

  • ·Gamers. Make a blank or spaced-out player name, or add a gap inside a clan tag. Whether a game accepts it depends on the game's own name rules.
  • ·Chat and social media users. Send an empty-looking message, add blank lines to a caption or bio, or space out text in an app that collapses normal spaces.
  • ·Writers and designers. Use a no-break space to keep a name or a number and its unit on one line, or a thin space for finer spacing than a normal space allows.
  • ·Developers and testers. Test how a form, database, or search handles characters that look empty, or find the hidden character that is breaking a string comparison.

Frequently asked questions

What is an invisible character?
An invisible character is a Unicode character that shows up as empty space, or as nothing at all. Some are real spaces in different widths, some have zero width, and some, like the Hangul Filler (U+3164), are letters or symbols that fonts draw as a blank. They copy and paste like any other text.
How do I make a blank name?
Click Hangul Filler two more times so your text has 3, then click Copy next to Invisible text and paste into the name field. Three characters get past most minimum length rules. If the app rejects them, clear your text and try the Braille Pattern Blank or the Halfwidth Hangul Filler, or a mix of them. Each app has its own name rules, so no single character is accepted everywhere.
How do I get another blank name if mine is already taken?
Build a different mix of blank characters, for example Hangul, Braille, Hangul instead of three Hangul Fillers. The name still looks empty, but to the game it is different text, so it can count as a new name.
Why did my invisible character disappear after I pasted it?
The app most likely trimmed it. Many apps remove whitespace from the start and end of a name or message, and characters like the no-break space and em space count as whitespace. Use a character from the Blank characters group instead, since those are not classed as whitespace and survive trimming.
How do I send a blank message?
Copy one Hangul Filler or Braille Pattern Blank and send it as the whole message. Apps usually refuse a message made only of spaces, but these two are not treated as spaces, so many apps let them through. A message made only of zero-width characters may be blocked as empty.
What is the difference between a zero-width space and a blank character?
A zero-width space (U+200B) takes up no room, so text on both sides touches as if nothing were there. A blank character like the Hangul Filler takes up room like a letter, so you see a gap. Use a zero-width character to hide a break point and a blank character when you want visible empty space.
How can I tell if text has invisible characters in it?
Paste the text into the checker at the bottom of the tool. It lists every invisible character it finds with its name, its code, and how many times it appears, then shows the text again with each one marked in place. Plain spaces, tabs, line breaks, and the joiners inside emoji are not counted.
How do I remove invisible characters from text?
Paste the text into the checker at the bottom of the tool, then click Copy without invisible characters. Unicode spaces such as the no-break space become plain spaces, and every other invisible character it found is removed. The joiners inside emoji are left alone so emoji like the family emoji stay in one piece.
How do I type an invisible character without copying it?
On Windows, hold Alt and type 0160 on the number pad for a no-break space. On a Mac, press Option and Space. In many Linux apps, press Ctrl+Shift+U, type the code (for example 3164), then press Space. In HTML, use an entity like   or ㅤ.
Does anything get sent to a server?
No. The characters are built and copied in your browser, and text you paste into the checker never leaves your device. Nothing is uploaded or saved.
