How upside down text works
Unicode has no upside down alphabet. The tool swaps each letter for a different character that looks like it turned 180 degrees, such as ɐ for a, ǝ for e, and ʇ for t, and then reverses the order so the line reads correctly when you turn your screen around.
Some letters already look the same upside down, like o, s, x, z, H, I, N, O, S, X, and Z, so they are kept. A few capitals use rare characters that only look roughly right, and they may show as empty boxes on older devices. Lowercase text usually flips more cleanly than capitals.
Reverse text vs mirror text
Reversed text changes the order of the characters, so hello becomesolleh. Each letter still faces the normal way. True mirror writing, where every letter is flipped left to right like the word on the front of an ambulance, is not possible with plain text, because Unicode has no mirrored alphabet.
