A word unscrambler takes a set of scrambled letters and finds every real word you can spell with them. Each letter can be used only as many times as you typed it. Type RETAINS and you get 256 words, from two-letter words like AT and IS up to seven-letter anagrams like RETINAS, STAINER, and NASTIER.
It checks your letters against about 168,000 words from the ENABLE word list, a free public-domain list made for word games.
